Dance students impressed the crowd with a range of dazzling performances
Hundreds of students from 35 primary and secondary Catholic schools from across the Diocese showcased their creative talents in a series of music, dance and strings performances throughout June, culminating in the ‘Best Of’ performance on 23 June.
The showcase events demonstrated the high calibre of choral, music and dance work from Catholic schools, under the Parramatta Diocese’s creative and performing arts initiative, CAPTIVATE.
The program provides learning and performance experiences for students, as well as builds expertise and a sense of community across the system. CAPTIVATE is very popular with five new schools joining the program since last year.

St Canice's Katoomba is hosting an expo to celebrate what students have been learning through our Indigenous Education Program’s Term 3 unit of learning, “Sky Country - Solidarity and Hope: Learning Together Then, Now and Always.” The Expo will feature a smoking ceremony, musical performances, open classrooms and more.

💙 Supporting Our Community with Vinnies 💙 Throughout Term 3, our St Canice’s families have generously donated items for our local St Vincent de Paul to share with people in our Katoomba community. This week, Kindergarten had a special visit from Ms Elaine and Mr Norm from Vinnies. The children asked thoughtful questions, including “How does Vinnies help people?” Elaine explained that Vinnies support people in many ways – providing food, medicine, and help with bills, as well as offering companionship to those who are lonely. She also shared that Vinnies organisations exist all over the world and are always grateful for volunteers. Kindergarten then reflected on how people might feel when they receive help. Dristy beautifully shared that she thinks they might cry – not from sadness, but with “joyful tears.” 💫 We are so proud of the kindness and empathy our students continue to show. 💕

📚 Library Day with Ms Sarah 📚 Library Day is always a highlight of the week at St Canice’s! Students not only enjoy borrowing from our incredible selection of books, but they also learn valuable skills from Ms Sarah on how to care for and run a library. From borrowing and returning books, to looking after covers and understanding the library system, students of all stages are hands-on and engaged. 🌟 Congratulations to our Lyrebird Award recipients! 🌟 At St Canice’s, our Positive Behaviour Support for Learning program (PBS4L) is an integral part of our school community. Our students strive to Love Selflessly, Live Responsibly, and Learn Purposefully, and these values are encouraged daily by our dedicated staff and students. Last week Stage 2 went to the Gully to learn about how this sacred place has been rejuvenated and how it is managed. We learnt about how the waterways are being looked after and how to assess the water quality by checking for micro-organisms. It was a hands on, very exciting great day of learning. Many thanks to Uncle David King who shared his wisdom with us and also to the Blue Mountains Council who led the water investigations.

St Canice's Debating Club is officially up and running! 🦆✨ Every Wednesday at lunchtime, our students meet to flex their argumentative muscles. For our very first debate, the topic was: “That the Debating Club should be called the St Canice's Debating Ducks.” After plenty of lively discussion (and a few laughs), the vote was clear — we are now proudly known as The Debating Ducks!
