Dance students impressed the crowd with a range of dazzling performances
Hundreds of students from 35 primary and secondary Catholic schools from across the Diocese showcased their creative talents in a series of music, dance and strings performances throughout June, culminating in the ‘Best Of’ performance on 23 June.
The showcase events demonstrated the high calibre of choral, music and dance work from Catholic schools, under the Parramatta Diocese’s creative and performing arts initiative, CAPTIVATE.
The program provides learning and performance experiences for students, as well as builds expertise and a sense of community across the system. CAPTIVATE is very popular with five new schools joining the program since last year.

St Canice's Katoomba is hosting an expo to celebrate what students have been learning through our Indigenous Education Program’s Term 3 unit of learning, “Sky Country - Solidarity and Hope: Learning Together Then, Now and Always.” The Expo will feature a smoking ceremony, musical performances, open classrooms and more.

Last Friday, during our dance, Jo Clancy, our amazing dance teacher, shared the special meaning behind the ochre we wore. For boys, Jo painted three lines; for girls, three dots. Each symbol represents: ✨ Connection to your own Spirit – the strength and light within you. 🌏 Connection to Country – wherever you were born, linking you back to the land. 👨👩👧👦 Connection to Family – your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and all those who came before you. A beautiful reminder that we are always connected — to ourselves, to the land, and to our people. ❤️

✨ On Friday, our St Canice's community came together to celebrate St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the patron saint of Australia and our parish. Mary’s guiding words — “Never see a need without doing something about it” — remind us of the importance of kindness, courage, and action. 📚 Library Day with Ms Sarah 📚 Library day is always a highlight of the week at St Canice’s! Not only do students get to borrow from an incredible selection of books, but they also learn valuable skills from Ms Sarah on how to run and care for a library. From borrowing and returning books to caring for covers and learning the library system, students from all stages are engaged and hands-on. Ms Sarah creates such a warm and welcoming space where a love of reading truly grows. ✨ Excitement is also building for our upcoming Book Week Parade on Friday 22nd of August – there’s been lots of chatter about which character to dress up as!
