The school celebrated the Feast Day of Mary Aikenhead, the Sister who founded the Sisters of Charity.
The children were asked to wear colonial dress. The children had lessons in their classroom just as they did in 1830's. After recess the children experienced a flag raising ceremony with the Union Jack and the singing of the national anthem God Save our Queen. This was followed by a period of marching which is good for the body and soul.

St Canice's Katoomba is hosting an expo to celebrate what students have been learning through our Indigenous Education Program’s Term 3 unit of learning, “Sky Country - Solidarity and Hope: Learning Together Then, Now and Always.” The Expo will feature a smoking ceremony, musical performances, open classrooms and more.

Last Friday, during our dance, Jo Clancy, our amazing dance teacher, shared the special meaning behind the ochre we wore. For boys, Jo painted three lines; for girls, three dots. Each symbol represents: ✨ Connection to your own Spirit – the strength and light within you. 🌏 Connection to Country – wherever you were born, linking you back to the land. 👨👩👧👦 Connection to Family – your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and all those who came before you. A beautiful reminder that we are always connected — to ourselves, to the land, and to our people. ❤️

🌞 What an incredible morning at our Community Open Day! 🌟 We had an outstanding turnout for a delicious BBQ breakfast and a wonderful showcase of learning in our open classrooms — featuring science, art, and music. 🎨🔬🎶 Our Little Lyrebirds and Little Lyrebird Learners had an extra treat with a jumping castle 🏰💛 A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made the day so special! 🙏✨

✨ On Friday, our St Canice's community came together to celebrate St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, the patron saint of Australia and our parish. Mary’s guiding words — “Never see a need without doing something about it” — remind us of the importance of kindness, courage, and action. She believed that when someone needs help, we should be the ones to step in. As we walk together at St Canice's, we carry Mary’s spirit with us. 📚 Library Day with Ms Sarah 📚 Library day is always a highlight of the week at St Canice’s! Not only do students get to borrow from an incredible selection of books, but they also learn valuable skills from Ms Sarah on how to run and care for a library. From borrowing and returning books to caring for covers and learning the library system, students from all stages are engaged and hands-on. Ms Sarah creates such a warm and welcoming space where a love of reading truly grows. ✨ Excitement is also building for our upcoming Book Week Parade on Friday 22nd of August – there’s been lots of chatter about which character to dress up as!
