Alice and students outside the church
The school celebrated the Feast Day of Mary Aikenhead, the Sister who founded the Sisters of Charity.
The children were asked to wear colonial dress. The children had lessons in their classroom just as they did in 1830's. After recess the children experienced a flag raising ceremony with the Union Jack and the singing of the national anthem God Save our Queen. This was followed by a period of marching which is good for the body and soul.

Little Lyrebirds Playgroup
Little Lyrebirds Playgroup is a FREE event for all little ones aged 0 - 6. Held at St Canice's Primary School every Wednesday of the school term, 9am-10:30am. Everyone is welcome.

Another highlight from last weeks' Musica Viva performance was hearing the Phoenix Collective play The American Quartet by Dvorak! The students in Stage 1 are learning how to play pickleball for sport! 🏓 Our students are loving pickleball — and for good reason! This fun, fast-paced sport comes with so many benefits: 🌟 Physical: Improves coordination, balance, agility, and overall fitness — all while being low-impact and safe for growing bodies. 🌟 Social: Encourages teamwork, communication, and making new friends. Kids learn sportsmanship and build confidence along the way! 🌟 Mental: Boosts focus, quick decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Plus, it’s a great stress reliever and loads of fun! Pickleball is quickly becoming a favorite, and we love seeing our students grow and shine on the court! 🙌💛

✨ A Special St Canice’s Tradition ✨ Recently, we celebrated one of our favourite St Canice’s traditions! Ms Rose and our beloved Darug–Gundungurra Elder, Aunty Carol, came together to guide our Year 6 students as they passed on their role as custodians of our school totem to our new Year 5 leaders. This year was especially meaningful as we marked the 10-year anniversary of our totem, The Three Sisters — a beautiful gift from Aunty Carol to our school. It symbolises walking together alongside Aboriginal culture, friendship, deep respect for Mother Earth, and our shared responsibility to care for the environment. Together, we listened to stories from Aunty Carol, reflected on our learning, and practiced stillness and awareness as a way of connecting with ourselves, our environment, and our community. 🌿 Thank you, Aunty Carol, for your generosity, wisdom, and the kindness you continue to share with us. Our school community is so much richer for it.

We were lucky enough to witness the supreme musical skills of The Phoenix Collective Quartet as they performed for us all in the hall, this morning. Over the last few weeks during music lessons with Ms Frazer, all stages have been working through a Musica Viva program called Game Day. 🎨🌸 Stage 2 Art Spotlight! 🌸🎨 Today in art, our Stage 2 students explored bright, bold colours to create stunning watercolour flower paintings. Using black oil pastels, they outlined each section, giving their flowers a striking and unique angle. We reminded the children of the famous artist Claude Monet, who once said, “I must have flowers, always, and always.” His words encouraged us to pause and appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds us every day. Student mobile phone use will be banned across 80 Western Sydney Catholic schools from the beginning of the 2026 school year. The restriction presents a positive opportunity to enhance student outcomes, both in academic excellence and wellbeing.
